Due diligence is the manual investigative process U.S. partners do with their future business partners to make sure business partners don’t carry tangible reputational or economic risks. The goal of this talk is to “demystify” the U.S. corporate due diligence process and introduce key strategies to help game studios ace their next due diligence KYC review. My talk will take the audience through the “brain of an investigator” and give behind the scenes insights into what reviewers are really looking for from your corporate documents and business presentation.

It takes years to master the craft which one has then to finetune every day with every turn of the world outside with its macro economics, with audiences drifting and merging, with changes in tastes and with diminishing attention spans, with new technologies and with new viral social media dances and bucket challenges.
We’ll try to understand what it takes to master the craft and how to stay awake and aware of all the changes that you can’t be ready for but you have to.

My experience and areas of interest in video games industry are rather wide – from publishing games at Blizzard to supporting indie developers in production and self-publishing, from fund-raising to teaching in video game schools and at master-classes and workshops.
I believe in innate synergy of production and publishing efforts and in this day and age the boundaries between the two domains are even slimmer than they have been before.

Patrick Sweeney

Patrick is the founder of the Interactive Entertainment Law Group in Southern California. He is one of the leading attorneys in the video game industry, having served both as in-house and external counsel to a variety of companies in his career.
In his 25 years in the games industry, Sweeney has negotiated an array of game development agreements, resulting in the commercial release of more than 1000 games across all distribution platforms and territories. In addition, he has represented clients with respect to the game rights for more than 50 major motion pictures and television properties, as well as negotiated numerous technology licenses, acquisitions and other agreements inherent to the games industry for many of the most famous game titles and franchises.

Meg Clarke

Meg currently scouts for the British games label Team17, helping indie developers secure support and funding for their games as well as providing feedback on ideas and prototypes.
They have been working in games for over a decade with a wildly varied CV working across games audio, project investment, events; following creative opportunities and turning their hand to any craft that sounds interesting and not too techy.

Chris Keeling

Games Chris has worked on include Panzer Elite, America’s Army, Twilight War, Order of War, World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, World of Warships, Master of Orion, and Star’s Reach. He holds an MFA in Video Game Production and Design from National University, and currently teaches in the Game Design Master of Science program at Full Sail University. He is also the CEO of indie studio Mars Games, working on a genre-breaking free-to-play shooter.

Anatoly Lubarsky

Anatoly is an independent game developer and founder of x2line. He has run the studio full time for more than 15 years, building and maintaining role-playing and puzzle games on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android (including TV form factors), and the web. Anatoly is the only full-time developer and coordinates long-term art and animation contractors. His titles include accessibility features such as VoiceOver support for visually impaired players and have passed 50M+ downloads.

Veronica is a User Experience (UX) veteran in the game industry who specializes in organizational strategy, UX maturity, and UX Research. Veronica founded Research in Play, an agency that focuses on helping game companies to improve user experience pipelines, scale UX efforts, enhance cross-functional collaborations, and elevate product quality. Veronica is a former Director of UX Research at Electronic Arts, where she transformed how player experience is part of the development fabric.
